I am looking for my father Christopher Wellington Mhlanga I last saw him in 1990 or later than that. My mother is Priscila Ndlovu from Mpopoma Bulawayo she was a policewoman, My fathers brother was called Ernest Mhlanga, my father was a policeman he used to work in Queens Park police station and Drill hall and my sister is Dadirai Mhlanga and am Sekai Mhlanga I have been looking for him for a while now but I can't seem to find him.

I hope you could help me locate him or his relatives please.

Hello, my name is Eugene Chikweye and I was born in Chimanimani (formerly Melsetter) in eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe in 1987. Edward William Green born UK 23 May 1945 died at Wonderland nursery school, Greendale, Salisbury at 4pm on Friday 23 September 1949. The post mortem report dated Saturday 24th September 1949 states cause of death as "congenital cerebral aneurism – natural causes.”


A court case was held on October 7th, the verdict of which was “probably due to natural causes.” The boy's mother wrote in her diary …. And would have been better left as it was – nothing can bring him back to earth to us now …
However, she had also written on



…September 26th …. Went back to John Bishops (I think that was where his mother worked at the time) and had to rectify wild rumours – decided to put an announcement in the paper …



...September 27th …. Announcement in paper today which will put matters right, we hope …

James Brown MacKay

I am trying to fill in missing pieces of my father’s family and leave this for my sons and grandson.

My grandfather James Brown MacKay was born in Lybster, Scotland and went to sea at a young age - that’s what he told me. He moved to Glasgow and operated a marine business with his brothers, and there must have been a family dispute as one brother took off and jumped ship in New Brunswick. The other I think I was told moved to Australia. My grandfather moved the family to Liverpool I would guess around 1930 and to my knowledge he only worked for Elder Dempster Shipping and was an engineer on the MV Apapa for many years. He later served in a land based position with Elder Dempster in Liverpool until he retired around 1960.

Grandad MacKay was not very talkative, and I learned after he died that during WWII he had been part of a salvage recovery team before the US entered the war. Convoy ships torpedoed by the Germans were somehow located and made “seaworthy” and sailed back to the UK to be patched up and sail again. I think his knowledge of the shipping lanes from England to West Africa were a key to his being assigned to the “Wavy Navy” and if anyone has any tidbits of information I would be very grateful.

I think it was "John" Guise/Guyse Alexander HIRST as there was a listing of him initially working at Turk Mine in Bulawayo & suspect he moved to Harare & may have worked for the prison authorities

the Ncube's and the Khambule

I have read your blog about the Ncube's and the Khambule as one,but now what buffers me is the Ncube's from Zimbabwe as they don't use the same totems as those from Natal they say they are a Banana clan and when one look at their totems do speak of the banana clan. Then the other thing is the story around the first bantu settlers in Zimbabwe who traded with other tribes making war weapons how they traveled to South Africa and I find again such similarity with the amacube tribe in Natal , which history is being rewritten between the two. n.sicelo@yahoo.com

Finding a friend

Hi, I am trying to trace Margaret an orphan at St Clair's in Bulawayo. She was sponsored by Jim Goodwin. I do not remember her surname, but know she married in Bulawayo. I believe the dates she was at the orphanage was around 1935 to about 1960.

Help needed

 

We think for various reasons that it’s possible that Joey might have assumed another person’s identity in the form of a birth certificate (there was never any evidence that she had an I.D and as a result never did anything formal like open a bank account in her name), when she was in her mid twenties, but this was after she had married O’Connell in around 1969.  

 

What will prove everything is her first marriage certificate to an O’Connell. This marriage certificate has never been found. We are certain of the O’Connell part and there are indications that his first names were Daniel Charles.  The most likely year for the marriage would have been 1969, but could have been up to two years either side.  We suspect Joey’s name would be either Johanna or Joana or Joanne.

 

Our request is: Would it be possible to search all O’Connell marriages from say 1966 to 1970?  If we can get the truth from that then the rest of the information becomes easier.

Can anyone help?

My wife Charmaine Duguid (nee Ferriera) has been trying to find information about her mother’s family for many years.  Her mother (Johanna Ferreira) died last week and for some reason never disclosed information about her birth family.  At the very end when she was very frail (with advanced pneumonia) she wanted us to notify all her family.  We don’t know what her reasons were for being estranged from her family and we don’t really care, we would just like to get in touch with them and to notify them of her passing and would be really grateful if you could help. We have the death notice from the doctor if you should need a copy. The details we have are as follows:

 

1)      Full Name: Johanna Christina Gertruida Ferreira (Maiden name: Pieterse) AKA “Joey”.

Born: 19^th December 1947 to father David Jacobus Pieterse (who was born in SA) and Mother: Maria Dorothea Botha, (also born in SA).

Birth Place: 5 Porter Cement Homes, Arcadia, Salisbury.

Birth certificate Entry Number: SBY/1162/47. Date of Reg: 06^th December 1947.

2)      Joey married Daniel. C. O’Connell in around 1969 and had two children by him, Ryan (born 23^rd August 1969) and Magdalina (born 9th April 1971). She then got divorced around 1973.  She then gave birth to Rodney on 14^th April 1974. (the birth certificate claims the father was “unknown”).

3)      Joey then got re-married to Andries Hendrik Ferreira on 23^rd January 1976, whom she was married to until his death on the 3^rd January 2000. She had to children with Andries, Charmaine (born 1976) and Adrian (born 1978).

 

What we are seeking is any information pertaining to Joey’s parents and her brothers and sisters.  We are not certain of any names for her siblings but would desperately want to find out their names and get in touch with them.  They were likely also born in the then Salisbury.
